30/04/09 -- The Queen visits Portsmouth

Queen Elizabeth visits Portsmouth in honor of the 65th Anniversary of D-Day during WWII.
This was around noon, I didn't have lectures until 2pm. :)

But this was also the morning after a night with McFly. I didn't get up 'til 10, a friend texted me about HRH coming to Pompey, so I got ready as fast as I could and hopped on the next bus to town. xD

The majority of the crowd was gone by the time I arrived. The bells of Guildhall's clocktower had run and the Queen already went inside.

It was also pouring down when I arrived. Those police officers were smiling at chuckling looking in my direction. I wondered why. Then I realized, oh, I'm all wet..

The band. :) And so much red, it's so pretty. Does it always look like this? I answer that with a laugh.

It seems like most English don't care about the Queen. But anyway, here's a nice shot of a really cool pub. :)

I didn't really know how to work the camera, so these were the outcome, but what matters to me most is that I was there, I lived the moment and enjoyed it.

Went to Oxford!! Can you believe it, guys? I can't really, either. But I did. x)

Last Monday morning, it snowed like crazy. It rarely ever snows in Portsmouth, but the cold snap was so strong, that we happened to get snow anyway. :)

Math is still driving me crazy. I'm still playing guitar. I think it would have been more appropriate to take a picture guitar-related today. But I'll always have my guitar to take pictures of. I am guarding my friend Lesley's can of Pepsi Max because she is totally addicted to that and she has to stop drinking it for a while. I've never had to take care of a can of soda before.

Friday night, I went to my first pantomime. A pantomime is a play/musical with lots of comedy in it. The panto we saw was Les Miserables, and we all know that story to be filled with drama and sadness. But as it was a panto, it was full of light-heartedness, wit, and lots of laughter. And pantos are full of crowd participation as well('weyyyy', 'boooooo', 'awwww', etc). Lesley and Hayley took me. It's really fun! It's got to be a totally British thing. I tried imagining an American pantomime and I just couldn't see it. And they said it's a children's type entertainment as well. They serve ice cream and everything. Too bad we didn't get ice cream. But I did get a Happy Meal from McDonald's! Yay free toy! I felt like a kid tonight. :)

Today was full of laughter.

She was the last flatmate to return, but Amilie's back! After 3 long weeks in New York. She's my closest friend around these parts so it was hard for both of us to be away from each other for so long. AND she brought me back my favorite bag of chips. YAYUH. I'm so glad she's back, and so glad that everyone is finally coming back to the halls and everything. :)

I'm starting Project365! In which each day I post a picture that is meaningful in my life. Something like that. Each picture will have its own post because they are special like that.

In a way, Big Ben makes me think of hopes and dreams, and all that fluttery stuff. About 12 hours before this photo was taken, I had my wallet and camera taken from me. While I was on my way to the Coach Station to go back to Portsmouth, I ended up there, right in front of this clock tower. I stood there for 10 minutes in silence. After that I felt like I didn't have to worry about anything anymore, and that I was going to be okay.

So, it was a quiet Sunday, or Saturday, I forget. So lonely. ;_; So I decided to make fun of myself being lonely:

I understand this holiday to be "The Day After Christmas National Holiday!!" And a day to have big sales. Kind of like Black Friday.

Since I started out the last two entries with food. lol, these were our appetizers at lunch at Tootsies.

Birthday Weekend & Random things

Just some pictures on my day of birth. :)
It wasn't a big outing, I just spent the day with my friend Brintha! And was bored during the waiting so I took a couple of pics

While waiting for a taxi at Langstone Student Village, my home. This is the 'beer garden'. I think it's really interesting that that's what it's called.

Lots of birds are around here. Ducks, pigeons, seagulls.. I wonder who had a brawl..

I have no idea what this is.

I was trying to capture how huge this pigeon was. I don't think it was successful.

I never eat here.

I've only been there twice. And I didn't drink at all. Well. I didn't drink more than a bottle.

Oh, look, I've made it to the station! I was originally meant to leave at the 9:20 stop. But that was when I woke up, haha. Look, the train to London Victoria was meant to be. :)

In the Underground now. Didn't realize I didn't rotate this. Look at the movie poster!! Whoa!

And then we went to the Apollo and saw this wonderful musical known by the name of "Wicked". After 'Defying Gravity' I sat there for five minutes with no ability to speak. Just, wowowowowowow, amazing.

Back at Brintha's. This is her brother's computer. LOOK. THE DESKTOP ON TWO SCREENS. AND HE'S GOING TO ADD ANOTHER SOON.

A great way to spend my bday. After that, Brintha and I bought food at Mark & Spencer at a petrol station(which I thought was the weirdest thing because how do you serve such luxurious food at a GAS STATION?!) then we watched Meet the Parents. It upset me a lot(lol) but it was really funny and I liked that movie a lot. I had a wonderful birthday. :D

Airport Day in Venice

Venice cried for me. Yes it was raining.

I ended up staying in the airport the whole day, so I needed my food.

The last line with the time in red on the left-- that's mine. Apparently the plane was going to be late but in the end it arrived on time, and we got to Gatwick early. :)

see those two empty boxes to the left of 'ROMA TERMINI'? Supposed to have stamps in em. That's why I almost had to pay 50 Euros...Luckily, I used my joozu Italian language skills and they let me off. Phew.

There was a secret passageway!! Actually.. it was a door that had a sign that said 'this way to the smoking area'. But the door was hidden enough.

Rome, Italy -- 13/12

ROME. ROME ROME ROME. THIS IS WHERE I TALK ABOUT ROME. IN PICTURES.

Taxi driver laughed at me for taking this pic. He said it meant "Long live Rome!" and the crossed out word was F*** you or something like that.

This creepy TV just turned on by itself, and that was the message.

Yeah so now I'm finally out of the hotel room, haha. I went to the little cafe place across the street. Got some Tortellini with ham.. and that was really not good pasta. :( It was so bad, it wasn't worth taking a picture.

Surprise Birthday Party.

On December 4th(I forgot, it was a Thursday night) I was thrown a surprise party. Since everyone is home on the 20th, a celebration was held in my honoUR.

These are most of the people who showed up to surprise me. <3>

Time for some friend intros! Sena, Sara, and Tanya all live in my flat. I call Sena my mama. Sara is a cool chick from Finland who likes to have fun and she eats healthy, lol. I'm barely getting to know Tanya since she is a new edition to our flat, but she is pretty cool. :D Elaine is one of the first people I met here, she's a pretty cool girl too. Steve is quite the wacky type, but he's cool and gives me and Amilie food. I met Brintha at a maths orientation. She is my age and we pretty much clicked. Ben is really cool, he also lives in the same vicinity, I hear him play metal on his guitar whenever I pass by his window(Okay, I've only heard it once..) Meg lives in the same flat as Lesley(same building), and we haven't talked much yet but she is really cool. Julio and I became friends the moment we found out each other's names. And he's cool. Vanessa is boring and repetitive, continually using the word 'cool'.

Oh and I didn't mention Dennis. Yeah, Dennis can be pretty quiet most of the time, but he's.. you guessed it--cool. :) Oh and there's Amilie again. LOL she's crazy. But I'm crazy too, which is why we love each other.

I asked for one pair of bunny ears. ONE.

I totally suck at candids which is why this is the only one I'll show you, lol.

What is this now, you wonder? Seriously, that's what I thought when I first unwrapped it.

Actually, I knew what it was before I even opened it. I love it. It's a cell phone holder.

Food for our party. Burnt pizza but still good.

We also had the Chinese dish called Hot Pot. It's really good, you put meat and stuff into a pot, let it boil and then YUM you have food.

I should have taken more pictures of everyone. I'm really grateful for Amilie here. She(with some help from Elaine) put hard love blood sweat tears into this. They had even looked for Filipino food for me. One night I had woken up from a nap and Amilie straight up asked me who my friends were, and I didn't really care why, but now I know, because most of them turned up to my party. :) Just professing my love for Amilie even more lol. <3

Last Sunday night, I heard a crash just outside my room. It was this. The tiles just fell on their own. [We think it's because the building is just old.]

I reported it to maintenance and they asked if I wanted a security guard to check it out. I really wanted to ask him "WHY?" because it seriously happened on its own.. unless he thought it would be cool to catch and arrest a poltergeist, or something.

I started at the bus stop at Langstone Student Village. I remember taking this pic thinking how creepy it would be if it was actually haunted. I didn't realize until right now that there's a person's shadow right there. x.x IT REALLY IS A PERSON, I PROMISE, IT'S NOT A GHOST.

Helloooo big pic of Brintha and I. She came to the gig even though she had never heard about them at all! Bless. :)

We were both posing like this in the middle of the standing room. x.x I didn't like how I looked and she didn't like how she looked.. we ended up taking 10 pictures before giving up.. lol.

Not saying much about them. The first song was fast and full of energy. The second song was also fast and full of energy. So was the third one. Do you see where I'm going? Guy's voice was eh. Like a Arctic Monkeys knockoff or something. They had no personality whatsoever. It got boring really fast.

Tried to do one of those "aerial view of how many people there are in the room while I'm in the picture too" shots. Obviously, it failed. And, it really was a sold out show, promise!

Then a brawl happened between a couple and a group of guys. But the band came out and were blatantly oblivious. And did their thing. The crowd went crazy. The middle crowd was jumping all over the place. Screaming crowdsurfers reached the front. Security guards stood bored at the front, waiting for the next surfer to fly and then get on with it. Okay enough of me talking, here are some pics.

I was smack dab in front of this handsome man. This is [bassplayer].

This is [frontman]. Not handsome, but cute in a boyish sort of way.

Loved how [frontman] had his beer on the side, while [bassist] had orange juice on the side. HAHAHAHA.

I want to say that this guy in the leather jacket is [lead guitarist]. He had all the cool solos.

I think that's [bassist]'s blue electric guitar. THAT THING WAS GORGEOUS. I should note now that during some songs [frontman] & [bassist] switched roles. I would never catch that while listening to the album, sometimes they both have the same singing voice?

On the way from Bayswater Tube Station to Umi Hotel...

And then I was there! Nothing special about this hotel, really. Just that it's a hotel in London.

In the waiting room, I looked through the newspaper and found THIS. LOLOLOL. Primark is a shop where all clothes are super cheap! Basically, you can get Palin's wardrobe for cheap there, lol.

But Liz the tourguide kept mentioning this on the bus("If we make it in time we'll be able to see [i forgot what it was called]." When this happened, we all ran from the front of the gates to the road, where this happened. It was literally like 'running to the ice cream truck'. :D

After John and Val Halsey treated us to dinner at the hotel, they took us to Leicester Square. Pronounced "Less-ter"

Aaaand here we go! Part 2 of the Windsor Castle pics. :)

What a pic to start the post! Look how the sun is shining on that part of the castle. That's gorgeoussss. And I didn't realize it when I took the pic but I know that girl in the red! She's in one of my classes, lol.

The first few pics were of me being one of many international students so excited to see a CASTLE that I had to take pictures before entering it. The leaders weren't very patient with us. XD

I always think of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost seeing an officer. Therefore, I always giggle.

I stared at this and thought about why there were a bunch of these on the castle's walls. I guessed that it was for defense during battles, and that that's how arrows were shot in the air to towards the enemies. I WAS RIGHT.

That tower with the flag on top is important to the castle. I wish I could remember why. Sigh.

I realized just now how fascinating this pic is. Look at it, the row of cars is like, 20th, 21st century? The architecture behind is almost 10 centuries older.

Another century gap.

This must be one of the reasons why Queen Mother loves Windsor Castle more than Buckingham Palace.

We couldn't take pictures in any of the buildings we went into. But the Doll's House was amazing. It was pretty much a mansion because it had so many floors. The miniature plates were actually made of silver, and the plumbing was fully functional, lol.

The audio guide told me lots of nice stories. We went into the state apartments(which included the King's bed chamber, Queen's ballroom, dining room, etc etc etc) and of course couldn't take any pictures. A lot of things were smaller than I imagined them to be, though. Like the grand staircase. LOL damn those movies that make them appear huge.

St. George's Chapel! The architecture inside is incredible. And there are tons of statues inside, and plaques that say things like "here lies the [insert hrh here]." Even the Queen's mother is in there. I donated 20p, and I lit 2 candles. They still hold masses in there.

Pretty much private property I'm venturing into. But the audio guide told me to enter the premises, so I did.
